Job Description

Under the general guidance of the Chief Medical Officer and procedural guidelines, provides support and is responsible for assisting providers in the refills of medications for the patients. This position performs prescription refills, using fax, phone, or e-prescribing through the E.H.R., that are currently listed in the patient’s chart that are under “active status”. This position only refills prescribed medications during assigned work hours.

When covering the floor, is responsible for supervising, facilitating, coordinating, and team leading, in conjunction with the care teams; the flow of patients within the clinic, the use of supplies, equipment, and nursing/nursing support staff resources to achieve desired patient outcomes and to promote professional development. Functions within the scope of nursing practice as defined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing and Sunset Community Health Center policies and standards of professional practice. This role serves to continually mentor and assist in training Nursing Support Staff and is responsible for the appropriate assessment and triage of patients presenting to the clinical setting or over the phone. Provide distant patient and in-person professional consultations and education, telephone triage and advice.


Maintains current Arizona or compact state R.N. licensure on file with Sunset. Completes and maintains CPR certification. Individual must be able to perform medical office duties which he/she is capable of by virtue of appropriate training and with the scope and limits of the nursing practice, perform each essential duty listed above satisfactorily and with professionalism and courtesy to others, able to effectively and efficiently organize and carry out workload.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Must be able to obtain a fingerprint clearance card. If not already obtained,  Fingerprint Clearance card application must be submitted within 5 business days of employment.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check and a health and drug screen.
  • Degree or diploma as Registered Nurse from an Accredited School of Nursing. Prefer at least two years’ experience healthcare facility or other nursing field with experience in dispensing medications.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
